About the Teacher:

A veteran teacher with an MA in reading and language arts, Wendy Kapusta enjoys working with students who don’t like to write. She believes, as Edward Bulwer-Lytton wrote, that “The pen is mightier than the sword.” Although she engages in typical English-teacher pastimes like reading and live theater, she also enjoys the out-of-doors, hiking and exploring new places.

Course Description:

The best form of flattery is imitation. It’s also one of the best ways to learn to write. By imitating the animal fables of Aesop, students in this class learn to paraphrase, improve their writing style with stronger word choices and sentence variety, and edit their work for grammatical and mechanical correctness. They practice the same techniques with each fable to master the skills taught – important skills that they will use in school to take notes for research projects and to prepare written presentations. After polishing their fables, they publish them in a book of their own design, which they present on the final day of class.
